Tricks to Help Makeup Stay Put

Whether it’s the hot summer months or the dead of winter, our makeup has a tendency to smudge, melt, and redistribute. Nobody likes to see their makeup move—it’s gross and frustrating. Here are the best tips to keep it where it belongs, so you’re always photo-ready.

Cleanse Well
Makeup often melts off because of the oil on your skin. Your best bet is to start off with fresh, clean skin. If your skin veers toward oily, try to find a cleanser that absorbs oils. I am obsessed with khadi toner and Mac makeup Cleanser.

Layer Carefully
After moisturizing, make sure to apply a primer before applying foundation. Primers help mask large pores, even out the complexion, and create a smooth canvas for the makeup. After applying makeup, remember to seal your cream-based makeup with powder.

Apply with Care
Cream makeup will continue to move until powdered—use either a brush or powder puff to dust on translucent no color powder.

Prime Your Eyes
Primer is always your friend. Just as you primed your skin, be sure to use an eye primer before placing your shadow. This will help it to stay in place and not leak down to your cheek throughout the day. Try Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (available at sephora).

Hands Off
Stop touching your face! Makeup can hold up fairly well, but if you are continually resting your cheek in your hands, the opposite will happen.

Stay Kiss-Proof
Use a touch of concealer or powder as a base before applying lip liner that is not too creamy, and a matte or low gloss lip color that will last longer, says Lewis.

Hope this helps you in putting the makeup last long!

5 Food Habits You Need To Give Up For Your Pimples!

Recently I have seen a lot of breakouts on my skin which never happened before, even though I have a concealer or a BB cream to fix it up, It still needed to be treated. And then, I made a conscious effort of checking up on my diet. Here are my Top 5 food habits I have been going wrong with-

1. Caffeine
No matter how many hydrating moisturizers you buy for your face, If your body is dehydrated on the inside, nothing will help. Watch your intake of caffeine (including all those carbonated drinks and incessant coffee breaks at work).

2. Sugar. Refined, synthetic Sugar.
Sugar is my weakness and it is major problem for most of the Punjabis after-all. But then breakouts are reason enough why I would like to keep a check on my sugar intake! Instead of the synthetic sugar, go for the real; coconut sugar, honey, agave are just a few that can be great replacement.

3. Fried food
fried cheese balls, fried chicken wings, I know, I know...But the truth is that the more “cooked” it is, the harder it is for our body to digest and thus, beautiful pimples begin to show. Stress less on fired, and maybe try baked. Oh Btw I read about this awesome Baked potatoes (just like fired finger chips recipe) that I will post soon, so yeah, look for alternatives!

4. Excessive Intake of Dairy Products
This includes Cheese, Paneer, Rsgulla, Khoa and Ghee. There are a lot of growth hormones contained in dairy which have an unnatural affect on our body.

5. Trans Fats
Fats Food, Chips, Donuts and almost everything not organic! I know It's not possible to not eat anything like this, but if you have excessive breakout problem and if you really love yourself, please draw a limit otherwise those pimples will never stop, NEVER. Trans fat generally isn't good for anyone that's why it is always suggested that one must go in for exercising and working out, but if that ain't possible especially in this sardi then cut down on it's consumption, for your own-self!

For those of you who arr rolling your eyes seeing the pointers above, I too am trying to take a stand (Have already applied pointer no. 1, 3 and 4), I will suggest that you too try to rid yourself slowly of at least three things from this list. Let’s kick start a great new year!

Review of Loreal Paris Kajal Magique!

How excited was I to see L'Oreal brand ambassador Aishwarya Rai Bachchan unveil the new eye liner, Kajal Magique in Mumbai at the end of 2013. Ash not only looked stunning in a black, Dolce & Gabbana gown, but her marketing collateral's also persuaded me to try the all new Magique. Read on for #TeamGuiltybytes verdict...

Kajals or Kohls are a must in every girl’s beauty kit and there isn't a day that I don’t leave my house without applying Kajal in my eyes. These days the market is flooded with decently priced Kajals like Maybelline Colossal Kajal and Lakme Eyeconic both doing very well among the consumers.

People are divided between the two and I personally like Maybellines’s Colossal Kajal better. Loreal India has recently launched a Kajal in this category called Loreal Paris Kajal Magique, claiming it to be the queen of Kajals. It is said to be powered with a new generation formula and mineral pigments for a deep intense color payoff. Along with providing a great finish, it is also enriched with ingredients like Vitamin E, Cocoa Butter, Olive Oil Esters and Vitamin C Derivative, which provide extraordinary care and a soothing feeling to the eyes. Since it is ophthalmologically tested, it is safe and suitable for contact lens wearers. Designed to last for up to 12 hours, Kajal Magique is smudge proof, waterproof and non-transferable. It is priced at Rs 245.

Loreal Kaljal Magique comes in a very sheek Electric pink and black colour packaging. I personally love the packaging as its very girly and also pink being my favorite colour. This Kajal glides smoothly on the eye, it is doubles up great as a liner as well. The colour isn’t the darkest of the black but it delivers a decent dose of black color that glides on effortlessly and blends beautifully. I had to apply 2-3 times to get the right colour and intensity. The kajal lasts for good 6 hrs without smudging (not for 12 hrs as claimed by Loreal). It’s easy-glide formula allows for maximum comfort and outstanding staying power.

Pros
Glides smoothly
Smudge proof for 6 hrs
Great packaging
Lasts long
Decently priced

Cons
Not the darkest of blacks as compared to Lakme and Maybelline. Have to be applied 2-3 times to get it right

My verdict is Loreal Paris Kajal Magique is a great kajal and I would definitely recommend the readers to use it. It will give a good competition to its counterparts Lakme Eyeconic and Maybelline Collosal and it might just become a favorite of a lot of people out there. It a practical beauty essential and I will definitely keep it in my beauty kit. What about you? Use it and let me know!

5 Lip Liner Mistakes We All Make—And Shouldn’t

Lip liner has had a bad rap for decades—ever since women thought it was a good idea to pair brown lip liner with nude lipstick. But the pencil does have an important place in our makeup routine if used correctly. It adds color, works as a primer and creates precise lines. Here are the top mistakes to avoid for perfect lipstick every single time.

1. Going Too Dark
The number one mistake we learned from the early 90s is never apply a darker pencil around your lipstick. Not only does it look tacky, but it also makes your lips looks smaller. If you can’t find a close match or a clear pencil, go with a pencil one to two shades lighter. This makes the center of the lips look plumper.

2. Leaving Smudges
A lip liner’s most important function is to create perfectly straight lines. Leave even one smudge and the lip looks sloppy. Fix any mistakes with a brushed dabbed in concealer. Trace the brush along the edge of the lips to cover any missteps.

3. Harsh Lines
Just as you don’t want smudges, you also don’t want harsh lines. The liner should be subtle and blend in with the lipstick. Two simple tricks: dab a Q-tip along the edges to soften the look and never sharpen the pencil to a super fine tip.

4. Moving Outside the Line
This may seem like the perfect way to fake bigger lips, but it only makes the lines more noticeable. Stick to drawing directly on the line.

5. Drawing Straight Lines
Straight lines tend to be harsh. Instead draw on an angle. This will also fill more of the lip and act as a better primer.

8 Beauty Habits You Should Be Doing Every Morning

Rise and shine! You don’t have to be a morning person to start your day with a few beauty-boosting habits. Add these must-dos to your A.M. routine and reap the benefits all day long.

Use an antioxidant serum.
Antioxidants such as vitamins C and E help protect your skin from aging free radicals, which occur when you encounter UV rays, pollution and other stressors during the day. They also help your sunscreen work better, and give your complexion a noticeable glow. Smooth on an antioxidant serum, after you cleanse and before you apply moisturizer or makeup.

Eat some protein.
Trade your bagel or piece of fruit for eggs or Greek yogurt . A recent study found that eating a high-protein breakfast helped women stay fuller longer and avoid overeating later in the day.

Duh, sunscreen!
You know you need sun protection daily (even when it’s cloudy), but do you realize that the SPF in your makeup probably isn’t cutting it? Yep — you need about a nickel-sized amount of sunscreen for your face alone, and most of us don’t pile on makeup that thick. Instead, double up on protection by using an SPF moisturizer under your foundation or powder. And don’t forget your lips, neck, backs of hands and eye area — all of those spots are exposed to aging UV rays just as much as your face.

Drink a big glass of water.
Dehydration not only causes you to feel terrible, it messes with the way your skin looks — and after a night’s rest, your body needs fluids. Whether or not you believe this woman’s miraculous makeover story, starting the day with a tall glass of water can’t hurt.

Move your body.
Studies have shown that women who exercise in the morning sleep better at night. And the beauty benefits of sleep are very real. Shift your schedule to make a morning workout easier to manage.

Choose a fragrance with citrus.
Using a citrus-scented perfume or body lotion can help jumpstart your day. Studies have shown citrus fragrances to reduce stress and even help boost immune function.

Mist your face.
Keep a can of mineral water mist in your fridge and give your face a cool spritz first thing. The chilly mist will help bring down morning puffiness and leave you feeling bright and awake.

Drink green tea.
If you need an A.M. caffeine boost, green tea is the best way to get it. The drink is packed with flavonoids, a type of antioxidant, which have been shown to slow cell damage (read: aging) and are even linked to a reduced risk of certain cancers. Can’t bear to give up your coffee (us either)? No need; coffee contains antioxidants, too and has also been shown to speed up metabolism.
