The Perfect Wedding Dress by Tarun Tahiliani

What I serioulsy love about the Indian Weddings apart from all the glam and show, it's the BRIDAL DRESS. I come from a big fat Punjabi family, where every girl in the family is made to believe that a wedding is such a girl thing. Well I dont know how many would agree or disgaree with me on this, what I do know is that the market for wedding dresses run on emotional and aspirational aspect than any financial one!

And for this love for wedding dresses, I bring to you the fourth edition of the Tarun Tahiliani Couture Exposition, that happened recently at DLF Emporio, New Delhi. Sixty of the finest pieces from the Studio’s latest couture collection were puton display during the four-day exposition. With finest I mean nothing but the 'finest'.

Set against a cutting edge glass backdrop specially done by AIS Glasxperts that created a magical mix of traditions and modernity, in a novel contemporary setting. As far as the colletion goes, it was a perfect paradise any bride can ever wish for.

For brides who don't want to swear by the traditional maroon or red, the new colour code is Orange. Intricate workmanship on this lehenga celebrates the trditional wedding craft. To compliment this look is beautiful Kundan jewellery from JH Jewelers.

A bride can never go wrong with a 'pink', keeping all the tradionalism alive is Tarun tahilian's Royal pink lehenga with a classy odhni.

The all time favorite bridal traditional lehenga with Zardosi work is a forever fashion statement. This ensemble by Tarun Tahiliani rightly defines the bridal choli with oomph.

Are you the one who wants to wear a perefct saree on your 'D' day and are in dilemma since everyone around you is sporting a heavy lehenga?? Well my dear darling, you shouln't worry anymore because this sultry tulle sari in delicate shade, embellished with sparkling stones is pegged as perfect, understated bling.

Emerald green shararas in georgette with chikankari embroidery is totally out of ordinary. Displaying a classic charm, antique gold sequin work laid in clusters creates the perfect ensemble for the out of the box sassy bride!

And you are brand new bride going to attend your husband's best friend's wedding??!! Choose a vintage embellishment from Tarun Tahiliani's collection. Being a concept sari, this black and white drape will make you grab all eyeballs. Don't forget to tie your hair for a perfect retro look.

Speaking about the Exposition, Tarun Tahiliani added “The Tarun Tahiliani Couture Exposition has been made possible due to the support of our partners and I would like to thank AIS Glasxperts, DLF Emporio, SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS, Diageo – Johnny Walker Gold Label Reserve, Forevermark, VU Technologies, Entertainment Design Company and JH Jewellers for each bringing their offerings and area of expertise to the exposition and ensuring a true luxury experience for the viewer.”

'kamarband'- a must try for new age brides can be worn with an animal-esque copper silk chiffon concept sari with a crystal border worn with a beige corset. Adorned with Swarovski Elements this look is can be worn for the starry Reception night.

To compliment the gorgeous bride is the groom's collection that too shows intricate designs. Ivory hues with a tinge of bronze and gold goes well together. To complete the look is the kundan rani haar adding a dash of royalty and power at the same time.

GET THE TARUN TAHILIANI LOOK RIGHT

#The key hole jacket Look

For the bride, there are special key-hole jackets, coupled with lehengas in classic hues of deep red and gold; versatile, modern day anarkalis—in fresh citrus colors of mango and peach. For the groom an antique gold brocade sherwani with raised cream cotton thread work styled with a long flared crinkled cotton kurta and an ivory stolewhich can be paired with a dhoti find prominence.

#The long Anarkali Look

The Anarkalis are here to stay. This intense mix of colors on a white base is indeed applaudable work of Traul Tahiliani. What i am wearing on the right is a similar ensemble designed by my b'ful mother. The printed net with floral motifs is from Chandini Chowk, while the Red choordaar is khadi silk cloth bought from Khadi Gram and golden border is a seperate tissue cloth that goes well with look. Not to miss are my gorgoeus pair of Red Pumps!

#The A Line Lehenga look

Whimsical motifs and sensational colors call out to the grandeur of our past with the renewed energy of revivalist craft and contemporary construction. The Tarun Tahilin's inspired outfit is my favorite Fuschia pink lehenga (on the right). I have coupled the dress with a golden blouse that adds a pich of gliiter to the look. A statement jewellery piece on the forehead adds chicness to the ensemble. P.s. the lehenga was an assembled piece, the pink bpttom is an unstiched cloth from Meena Bazaar, it had been sewed with a Pink georgette skirt underneath, also designed by Mum!

The Tarun Tahiliani Couture Exposition was an epitome of luxury with its creation of exclusive custom-fitted clothing for the beautiful bride-to-be. His collection sure is intricacy combined with simplicity, prefect for the modern bride. Hope you liked the dresses as mush as I did;
Till then all I want to say is- when I grow up, I want a big drama, I don't just want a wedding but instead I want a parade...!

Talking Threads- What's your Phulkari quotient??

From 'Paani-da-rang' to Yo-Yo Honey Singh, Punjabi culture is picking up like never before. From food, music, celebs its raw fashion that is making wavesin the market. The art of "flower working" also called as Phulkari is in the shopping kart of guiltybytes this season. The most intricate form of motifs created in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal process make the perfect phulkari! The main characteristic of Phulkari embroidery is that the stitch is used on the wrong side of the fabric with the design taking shape on the front.

Gone are the days when Raju's mummy, yes Raju, the guy we all use to hate playing with use to wear a dull looking, unfinished thread work, then known as Phulakri Saree. Phulkari has become trendier than before, there are jackets that you can team up with pencil fit skits, then there is a sexy saree that should be sported with a skimpy blouse...you think of it and it's there in the market, on web portals, and everywhere!

The Phulkari jacket can give complex to any boyfriend's jacket from an international brand, when worn rightly. On a wedding, if you are too bored of wearing the same old anarkali or a Lehenga, then go in for something as good as this jacket.
Team it up with a bold colored, flared skit and flashy earrings. On yes make sure the hair look neat, you too can go in for a clean pony tail.
And my dear i can promise you, Raju, Bunty and Sonu's mummies will be eyeing you all shaadi long!!

Last but not the least are my all time favorite, Jootis with phulkari work!

Foot-y Wisdom

Wearing a new pair of jootis can prove to be a bit painful. To avoid this, rub the inner part of the jootis with sandpaper. This will make the leather smooth.
Alternatively, apply Vaseline on your feet to avoid shoe bite. Moreover, wear skin stockings if you have delicate feet.
Since these are closed shoes and given the Indian weather, your feet are likely to stink! To avoid this, apply talcum powder before wearing them.

*Available at Janpath, Karol Bagh, CP and more

So now that you know the wonders of Phulkari, get up, grab your wallet and splurge. Let the world know your Phulkari quotient...!
